A prize tulip meets its match

this morning I watched a tulip topple
not broken by a squirrel this time
but by the larger rotund bunny
who harbors in my yard

bright red, tall and firm — the flower was
still standing after rain undid the rest
I was surprised to see that rabbit
could conquer the very best
